Welcome!

Welcome to Stories from a State Park Ranger!
This blog is inspired by my mother, who has been working with state parks for 30 years! She has just recently retired, and for my senior project for English, I decided to collaborate with her in order to show everyone what life was like with state parks! Having a mom as a ranger has been a part of my life forever. My mom is very inspiring, and loves to be of help to visitors of all the people she's worked for. Using this blog to share some of her stories and photos is a great bonding experience for the both of us. I hope you enjoy this blog as much as my mom and I enjoy editing and making it!

A Job with a Future!

Description of a State Park Technician! Found this in a folder my mom had marked "Humboldt State University"

Hey.. Look who it is!

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Aren't I adorable?

And this is my little sister with my mom!

Interesting Story..

My mom spent a period of time working in Malibu, at Malibu Creek State Park. It's beautiful down there, and my mom loved to bike along the coast whenever she could. On one of her days off, she biked down to the small market located close to the beach. She walked in and almost immediately ran into a couple. Do these people look familliar?

Paula Abdul and Emilio Estevez!

Surprised, my mom politely apologized and began a conversation with the two. She remembers Paula being very talkative and friendly, and Emilio not as much. After a little bit of chatting, they said their goodbyes and they went on their way. Unfortunately, my mother has no proof of this event. She isn't the type to ask for pictures and signatures from celebrities. But as she recalls this memory, I can tell she's telling the truth. Paula and Emilio weren't the only celebrities she's met. Here are some other people she's met. Know any of 'em?

Cybill Shepherd                                                                           Goldie Hawn

                           Harold Ramis                                                              Yvonne Elliman

Hiking Safety

  • Try to hike with a family member or friend. You'll enjoy the companionship, and you'll be a lot safer with a partner!
  • Take some water. You have to remember to stay hydrated!
  • Let someone know where you are. In case you're in trouble, getting lost or getting hurt, it's good to have someone back at home or at the camp know where you are.
  • DON'T WALK OFF THE TRAIL. You don't know what kind of plants and animals are hiding off the trail that could cause you harm.
This is basic knowledge that all hikers, seasoned professionals or new ones, should know and take to heart. Following this ensures your safety, and helps prepare for emergencies!
